Elena C. Ugarte, 97, of Sabinal died on July 17, 2016, at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A rosary was recited yesterday and will be recited again today at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal. A funeral mass will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sabinal, with interment to follow at Sabinal Cemetery. She was born on Aug. 19, 1918, in Losoya to Francisca (Alcoser) and Felipe Colunga. She married Abdon Ugarte on June 2, 1941, in Von Ormy. The family says she had a passion for her family and her faith, and for making handmade quilts. Ugarte is survived by three sons, Daniel Ugarte and wife, Elizabeth, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Eloy Ugarte and wife, Irene, of San Antonio, and Rafael Ugarte and wife, Estella, of Sabinal; two sisters, Elvira Alvarado of Lytle, and Florinda Mata of San Antonio; one brother, Raymond Colunga of Florida; five grandchildren, Daniel Ugarte Jr. of San Diego, California, and Alexandra Bowron, Danny Ugarte, Louis Ugarte, and Laura Rangel, all of San Antonio; five great-grandchildren, Scarlett Bowron, Violet Bowron, Xavier Ugarte, Brandon Ugarte, and Noah Rangel, all of San Antonio; one great-great-grandchild, Joel Aaron Ugarte of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters, Maria Medina, Clara Alvarez, and Delfina Piña; three brothers, Gilberto Colunga, Cruz Colunga, and Emilio Colunga; and two great-grandsons, George Ugarte and Nicholas Alexander Ugarte. Pallbearers will be Daniel Ugarte, Eloy Ugarte, Rafael Ugarte, and Louis Ugarte.
