Arlie Devillar Estes, 75, of Floresville, formerly of Sabinal, died on July 22, 2016, in San Antonio. He was born on Oct. 19, 1940, in Corpus Christi to Leola (Nettle) and Albert Devillar Estes. He and three siblings were adopted by their grandparents, Charlie and Mittie Estes, after their father’s death in 1947. He spent several early years in Corpus Christi and then grew up on a farm in Sabinal. He graduated from Sabinal High School in 1959. He married Barbara Tillotson on Dec. 23, 1960, in Uvalde. To this union were born two children, Arlene Yvette and Allen Dale. The family says he worked as a backhoe operator for many years until disabled by a back injury; and he was an avid hunter and a licensed gunsmith. Estes is survived by his wife, of Floresville; two children, Arline Marquis and husband, Craig, and Allen Estes and wife, Lori, all of Floresville; six grandchildren, Wyatt Estes and wife, Jessica, Adrian Marquis, Angel John Marquis, Ruben Allen Marquis and wife, Justine, Julie Norine Gomez and husband, Ricky, and Krista Estes; six great-grandchildren, Renee Marquis, Jamin Marquis, Elijah Marquis, Marleey Marquis, Royce Gomez, and Izyk Gomez; and two siblings, Albert Estes and Shirley Splawn, both of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; one brother; and three sisters. A celebration of life was held on July 26, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Floresville.
