Mario C. Salinas

Mario Castillo Salinas, formerly of Uvalde, died in his home on Sept. 15, 2016, in San Antonio. He was 90. Mr. Salinas, son of Randolph and Carmen Smith, was born on May 8, 1926, in Eagle Pass. A proud veteran of the United States Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC), Mr. Salinas served with honor in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Salinas was a kind and loving father and grandfather with a passion for old Westerns and all types of music. Mr. Salinas is survived by his son, Michael Salinas, grandson, Chris Salinas, siblings, Elsie Canales, Rodolfo De La Garza, and Sabino Salinas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Salinas, and his daughter, Angie Salinas. A memorial service took place yesterday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m. at Funeral Caring USA inside Alamo City Christian Church at 6500 North Interstate 35, San Antonio, TX, 78218. Visitation was held from noon to 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Salinas’ life. Mr. Salinas will be laid to rest in a graveside service tomorrow, Sept. 23, 2016, at 10: 45 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1520 Harry Wurzbach, San Antonio, TX, 78209.
