David Eugene (Mac) McIntosh, age 85, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away at 5:28 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at IU Health Arnett Hospital Lafayette. Born on Feb. 11, 1931, in Utopia, he was the son of the late William E. McIntosh and Anna Louise (Barton) McIntosh. He graduated from Utopia High School. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He married Norma Jean Wilson on Oct. 9, 1952, in Ambia, Indiana, and she survives him. Mac retired after 37 years from Fairfield as head of maintenance and safety. He was a member of Voiture 40 & 8, American Legion Post #11, and was a Lafayette City Council member from 1980 to 1991. He loved his Texas roots. He was an avid fisherman in Texas for 26 years, and in Minnesota for over 20 years. He enjoyed woodworking and lapidary. Mac had a great sense of humor, always an advocate for the underdog, and never met a stranger. He said what he meant and meant what he said. He was idolized by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the feeling was mutual. Surviving with his wife are his children: David M. McIntosh (wife: Julie) of Rochester, New York, Diane Sherman (husband: Don) of Marble Falls, and Dawn Thurnauer (husband: Gary) of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother: William H. McIntosh (wife: Reva) of Blanco; seven grandchildren: Daniel McIntosh (fianceé: Erin Maley), Claire Meraz (husband: Bryan), Jennifer Tracey (husband: Austin), Amanda Varenhorst (husband: Aaron, Allison Santillan (husband: Abraham), Charlotte Thurnauer and Bryan Thurnauer; and five great-grandchildren, Brynn Meraz, Lennan Meraz, Summer Maley, Archer Varenhorst and Ava Varenhorst. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florene Shaw and a brother, Frederick J. McIntosh. A memorial visitation was held yesterday from 5-7 p.m., at Hippensteel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Research Foundation, www.parkinsonhope.org/donate or donor’s charity of choice.
