Julia Ramona Benavides, 77, of Uvalde died on Feb. 8, 2017, at her residence. She was born on July 6, 1939, in Uvalde to Juanita (Martinez) and Emilio Gomez. She married Ysidro Benavides on Jan. 18, 1959, in Uvalde. She is survived by two sons, Fred Benavides and companion, Stella Romero, and Benito Benavides and wife, Norma, all of Uvalde; one sister, Petra Escamilla and husband, Ruben, of Boerne; 11 grandchildren, Emilio Benavides, Savanna Benavides, Bethanie Benavides, Benny Benavides, Estephanie Standage, Dessirrey Benavides, Cheyenne Benavides, Antonio Benavides, Joshlynn Benavides, Daniel Garza and Steve Garza; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one sister, Carolina Velasquez; and one brother, Reymundo Gomez. A rosary was recited on Wednesday and again on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass was held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers were Emilio Benavides, Antonio Benavides, Michael Cardoza, Daniel Gomez, Rosendo Rodriguez and Leeroy Rios.
