
Walter Otis Harrington, 90, of Uvalde died on Feb. 10, 2017, at his son’s residence.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Baptist Temple Church, followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery. The Rev. Tony Gruben will officiate.
He was born on Aug. 24, 1926, in Port Arthur to Allie (Smith) and Joseph Otis Harrington. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1944, and served until WWII ended.
The family says Harrington spent years as a painter in Uvalde; he enjoyed dancing with his wife, Vera; and he loved arrowheads, often digging for them in different areas of west Texas. He shared his love for arrowheads with friends and with his son. According to the family, he volunteered at a local nursing home later in life. The family says he blessed many lives and will be deeply missed.
Harrington is survived by one son, Ray Caraway and wife, Marge, of Victoria; one step-daughter, Ella Louise Colvin and husband, Bill, of College Station; one nephew, Dusty Earwood and wife, Carla, of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Rachel Berte and husband, Larry, and Ben Caraway and wife, Cynthia; five great-grandchildren, Ana Elizabeth Berte, Kate Harrington Berte, Callie Caraway, Melanie Zavala, and Wandeny Zavala; and numerous other relatives and friends, including Rhonda Lefteau and DeDee Caraway.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vera Harrington; one stepson, Lewis Gilbert Ross; and one sister, Dorothy Earwood.
Pallbearers will be Ben Caraway, Adam Dillard, Gary Gilbertson, Troy Sheldon, Ken Dillard, and Dusty Earwood.
