Claude A. Graham

Claude Allen Graham, 91, of Utopia died on March 11, 2017, at his residence. A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Jones Cemetery in Utopia. He was born on July 27, 1925, in Tarpley to Mildred (Hicks) and Claude Murray Graham. He attended Trio, Utopia and Sabinal schools, graduating from the latter in 1943. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II. Graham married Nelle Schaefer on Dec. 24, 1946, in Uvalde. The couple had three children. Having worked on ranches most of his life, he semi-retired and the family moved to Granite Shoals where they opened Graham’s Grocery Store. The family says he loved family and friends, fiddle music, fishing, playing the domino game 42, and telling stories. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Claude Allen Graham Jr.; and one brother, Punk Graham. He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Whitten and husband, Greg, of Coleman, and Jeanie Kolb and husband, Pee Wee, of Llano; one granddaughter, Ashlee Whitten of San Marcos; two sisters, Ethel Maude Weynand of Utopia, and Marie Lee of Magalia, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
