Oliver Henry Mills, 96, of Uvalde died on April 3, 2017, at his residence. He was born on Sept. 19, 1920, in Concan to Althia (Rankin) and Arthur M. Mills. After moving to Uvalde in 1929, he attended Uvalde High School at the old West Main building. He proudly served the country during World War II. The family said he was a farmer and worked with the Neutze family as lead mechanic; he worked with Pete Neutze and Gus Neutze since the early 1960s. The family says Mills stated many times his happiest days were spent serving the Lord and playing baseball with his children. He married Willie Dean Simmons on Feb. 4, 1950, in Uvalde. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Willlie Dean Mills, of 59 years; one son, Walter Carvel Mills, in 1973; two brothers, Jack Mills and Arthur Mills Jr.; two sisters, Willie Dee Davis and Clara Brown; and one grandson, Manuel Mills, in 2016. He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Clark and husband, Allen, of Denton, and Janet Mills of Uvalde; four sons, Preston Mills and wife, Sara, of San Antonio, Arthur Mills and wife, Linda, of Cameron, Oliver Bryan Mills and wife, Diana, of Uvalde, and Mark Mills and wife, Mara, of Denton; 23 grandchildren; 33 greatgrandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral and memorial service was held on April 6, 2017, at Uvalde Funeral Home. Interment was at Uvalde Cemetery. He was laid to rest with military honors from the U.S. Air Force honor guard. Family gathered at his home location after services. He was interred next to his wife on April 12, 2017, at Uvalde Cemetery.
