Gertrude Louise (Balzen) Meyer, 91, of Knippa died on May 8, 2017, in Uvalde. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Rushing- Estes-Knowles Mortuary, followed by interment at Knippa Cemetery. A reception will follow at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Knippa. She was born on Aug. 20, 1925, in Knippa to Amalia ‘’Molly’’ (Cook) and Robert B.H. Balzen. She married Gilbert Meyer on April 25, 1948, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Knippa. She is survived by her beloved sister, Marian Trees, of Portland; one daughter, Dorothy Schawe and husband, Lee, of Knippa; three sons, Richard Meyer and wife, Faye, of Austin, Kenneth Meyer of Sabinal, and James Meyer of Brenham; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; and in 1998, her husband; and one great-grandson. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Raymond Schawe, Preston Meyer, Patrick Meyer, Neal Meyer, Nathan Meyer, Daniel Schawe and Landon Meyer.
