
Alfonso Flores Jr., 75, of Leakey, formerly of Sabinal, died on July 4, 2017, at his residence. A service of remembrance will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sabinal. He was born on Aug. 23, 1941, in Sanderson to Elisa (Aguilar) and Alfonso Flores. A graduate of Sabinal High School, Flores enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Nov. 9, 1960, and was sent to Lackland Air Force Base for basic training. While serving, he studied the electrical trade; he later became an electrician and continued that career throughout his life. The family says he enjoyed gardening and being outside in nature. He loved fishing and hunting, and treasured moments spent with his family. Flores is survived by his wife of seven years, Betty Flores of Leakey; four children, Saul Flores and wife, Crystal, Omar Flores, Elisa A. Martin and husband, Charles, and Yzette Haag and husband, Luke, all of Sabinal; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Flores and wife, Gloria, of Castroville and Jaime Flores and wife, Elia, of Sabinal; one sister, Irma Rodriguez and husband, Robert, of Sabinal; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Elisa Flores.
