Grady Wayne Grabbs, 84, of Starrville, formerly of Uvalde, died on July 10, 2016, in Starrville. He was born on Dec. 26, 1931, in Carrizo Springs to Lamera (Motes) and Jim Grabbs. He grew up in Uvalde. Grabbs joined the United States Army as an artillery surveyor and fought during the Korean War. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1953. He moved to east Texas to become a ranch manager, working as such from 1959 to 1977. After retiring from ranching he owned and operated Starrville Grocery and Feed for 13 years. Grabbs is survived by one son, Michael Grabbs and wife, Dyan, of Starrville; one daughter, Judith Keele of Tenaha; four grandchildren, Casey Grabbs and Nikki Wright, both of Starrville, Brad Jernigan and wife, Catherine, of Liberty City, and Jody Fleming of Tenaha; four great-grandchildren, Alexis McBride, Bailey Jernigan, Joscelyn Jernigan, and Toby Fleming; one brother, Gene Grabbs and wife, Louise, of Carrizo Springs; one niece, Kimberly House of Taft; and one nephew, James Grabbs of Corpus Christi. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille Grabbs; second wife, Pat Peters Grabbs; and one nephew, David Gene Grabbs. A visitation was held on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater with George Folmar and Roger Cage officiating. Interment followed at Starrville Cemetery in Smith County.
