
Yolanda Martinez of Uvalde, 78, died on April 4, 2016, at the Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Uvalde. Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment to follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery. She was born on Aug. 4, 1937, in Crystal City to Herminia (Diaz) and Cecilio Martinez. She married Juan Armando Martinez in Uvalde on Nov. 9, 1957. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, of Uvalde; four daughters, Norma Sharp and partner, Victor Fuller, Bertha Ortiz and husband, Gabriel, Lydia Delgado and husband, John, all of Angleton, and Cynthia Garza of Uvalde; four sons, Juan A. Martinez Jr. and wife, Carol, Andy Martinez and wife, Susie, Ruben Martinez and partner, Elva Ayala, all of Uvalde, and Tony Martinez and wife, Monica, of Austin; one step-son, Armando Martinez and partner, Ruby Garza, of Uvalde; three sisters, Simona Martinez of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Hortencia Martinez of California, and Minerva Nevarez of Washington; two brothers, Mario Hernandez of San Antonio and Robert Martinez of California; one son-in-law, Bryan Taylor of Angleton; 27 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Juan and Eva Martinez; one daughter, Racheal Taylor; one sister, Olga Gonzales; one grandson, Matthew Martinez; one granddaughter, Angela Casarez; and one son-in-law, Joe Garza. A rosary was recited on Tuesday and again yesterday at 7 p.m. at the Rushing Estes Knowles Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Ruben Ruiz Jr., Johnny Martinez, Joey Garza, Johnny Delgado, Ruben Martinez Jr., T.J. Guzman, Matthew Ortiz, and Andy Martinez II.
