Chester Dale Funderburg, 86, of Uvalde died on Nov. 20, 2016, at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on March 5, 1931, in Sayre, Oklahoma to Ethel (McDonugh) and Evert James Funderburg. He was proceeded in death by his parents; one brother, E. J. Funderburg; and three sisters, Elise Funderburg, Anna Lee Pruet, and Genevice Quinn. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Funderburg; one stepson, Billy Kingston and wife, Becky, of Uvalde; four daughters, Amber Rogers, Barbara Reed, Rene Kingston, and Brandi Digger; two sisters, Alice Uptergrove, and Wanda Butts; and one brother, James Funderburg, all of Oklahoma; and numerous great-grand children, nieces and nephews. He worked as a labor foreman for Parker Construction Company in Sayre, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the U. S. Army on April 11, 1950, for a duration of three years. He trained in the airborne school, receiving his parachute badge, then entered engineering school and took courses in demolition, at which time he was promoted to sergeant. He married Ruth Gable on May 29, 1964, in Lubbock. The couple resided there for four years before moving to Amarillo, where he worked for the Toledo Scale Company. In 1971, the couple moved to Uvalde and operated C. D.’S Scales on South Getty Street until his retirement in 1996. The family says he received a 25 year commendation from the Toledo Scale Company for his service. After retiring, he owned and managed a pecan grove in Montell, and the family says many people in Uvalde were regular customers for his excellent pecans. A graveside service and interment was held on Nov. 12, 2016, at Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family says memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
