Darryl “Bill” Earwood

Darryl “Bill” Earwood, 74, of Kerrville died on April 7, 2016, at his residence. He was born on Dec. 1, 1941, in Houston to Louna (Ivy) and Darryl R. Earwood. The family says he was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and uncle to his immediate family. He was also a brother in arms, having served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. During his six-year enlistment the family says he met his match; a medic named Joyce Frakey. His grandparents, Eliza Jane (Beard) and Henry Jefferson Ivy of Utopia, lit the oil lamp in their one room cabin for his studies when he was only 6 years old. The family says he was known for masterful one-liners, and as a fair golfer, and he was a gentle man of great selfexpectations. His greatest pride came not from his vocations but his role as father, grandfather, and loving husband. Earwood was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Uvalde. The family says he knew and loved his savior and relied on his higher power to bring him serenity and maintain his sobriety these last 35 years. Earwood is survived by his wife of over 52 years, of Kerrville; one son, Eddie Earwood and wife, Linda, of Corpus Christi; one daughter, Carol Brewer and husband, Tom, of Uvalde; one brother, Eddie L. Earwood and wife, Kathleen, of Brackettville; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and three of his four siblings, Patsy York, formerly of Brackettville, Darrylene Bauchman, formerly of Del Rio, and Raymond Earwood, formerly of Houston. Military honors and interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
