Rodolfo Gonzales Hill, 62, of Bakersfield, California, died on Feb. 2, 2017, at his residence. Funeral services will be held today, beginning at 9 a.m. with a mass at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Bakersfield, California, and followed by a funeral ceremony at the Bakersfield National Cemetery. Hill was born on March 28, 1954, in Uvalde to Pura (Gonzales) and Rodolfo Brady Hill. He grew up in Uvalde and Burley, Idaho, but spent most of his adult life in Bakersfield, California. At the age of 18, while living in Idaho, the family says he met the love his life, Lisa Lopez. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army. After almost two years of service, he returned to Idaho and married Lopez on March 16, 1974, in Burley, Idaho. The couple moved to Fort Rucker, Alabama, where their son, Rudy, was born in May of 1975. After Hill completed his military service, the couple moved to Bakersfield, California. In 1980, their daughter, Celina, was born. The family says Hill will be remembered for his sense of humor and love for his country. Even after a stroke in 2002 that gradually drained his energy, he continued to fight illness while making people laugh with over-thetop remarks. According the the family, he was a friend and family man, a political junkie, and a truck driver and instructor who loved the road and the outdoors. Hill is survived by his parents; two sisters, Rosie Hill and Linda Gomez and husband, Joe, all of Uvalde; one brother, Ricardo Hill and wife, Nelda, of Uvalde; one son, Rudy Hill and wife, Rosalba, of Denver, Colorado; and one daughter, Celina Hill of Bakersfield, California; as well as five grandchildren, Rodolfo “Rodo” Hill, Frida Hill, Audrey Hill, Sofía Hill, and Ana María Hill. A visitation was held yesterday from 4-8 p.m. at Greenlawn Mortuary Southwest in Bakersfield, California.
