Conrado G. Ybarra

Conrado G. Ybarra, 85, of Uvalde died on March 2, 2017, at Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio. A celebration of life will be held on March 18, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by interment at the Uvalde Catholic Cemetery. The Rev. Eduardo D. Morales will officiate. He was born on Nov. 2, 1931, in Blewett to Francisca (Gonzalez) and Arturo Ybarra II. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. After retiring from the Central Power and Light Company, he worked for the Uvalde Police Department as a school crossing guard at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and Benson Road in Uvalde. According to the family he served as a Eucharist minister and greeter at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and was a member of the Familia Sagrada Bible study group for 19 years, and also a member of the Thomas Valle American Legion Unit Post #479 since 1966. Ybarra was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Candelaria Ybarra DeLaPaz and Anita Ybarra Avalos. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lydia Saenz Ybarra of Uvalde; six sons, Arturo Ybarra and wife Patricia, Xavier Ybarra and wife Alma, and Conrado Ybarra Jr. and wife, Sulema, all of Uvalde, and Robert Neal Sanchez and wife, Guadalupe, and James Sanchez and wife Laura, all of San Antonio, and Jerico Sanchez of Austin; one daughter, Cynthia Sanchez Alvarado and husband, Frank, of San Antonio; one grandaughter whom he raised, Michelle Luevano of Fort Worth; two brothers, Arturo Ybarra III and wife, Cindy, and Guadalupe Ybarra, all of Uvalde; four sisters, Refugia Ybarra Uriegas, Carmen Ybarra Uriegas and husband Rodolfo, Olga Ybarra Sanchez, and Rosa Ybarra and husband, Joe, all of Uvalde; and numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to American Legion Post #479, for the scholarship fund, P.O. Box 936, Uvalde, TX, 78802; or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 408 Fort Clark Road, Uvalde, TX, 78801.
