Patricia “Patsy” Davis Berry, 99, of Uvalde died on April 18, 2017, at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had resided since October of 2014. She was born on April 27, 1920, in Kinney County to Roberta (Rowland) and Harry Kimball Davis. She spent most of her life in the community of Laguna in rural Uvalde County. She married William “Bill” Berry on March 18, 1936, in Montell. He preceded her in death in 1971. She then married Archie Welch of Camp Wood in August of 1975. He preceded her in death in 1983. She cared for her disabled father for approximately 20 years. After his death in 1962, she worked at the Piggly Wiggly in Uvalde, while attending night classes at Southwest Texas Junior College, until she was able to teach in Camp Wood with an emergency certificate. She continued attending night classes while teaching, traveling to Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio two or three nights a week and spending one summer at the college. She graduated from Our Lady of the Lake College in 1968 with a degree in elementary education. Following her graduation, and until her retirement in 1986, she taught at Anthon Elementary and Robb Elementary School. The family says she took pride in her life membership in the Mayflower Society of America; and after retiring she spent her time gardening when possible, and she favored reading as a leisure activity. Berry is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Lamirand of Carrizo Springs, and Helen Lloyd of New Braunfels; one son, George Berry; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands; two sons, Robert William Berry and William B. “Billy” Berry; two grandsons, Kevin Wooldridge and Duane Lloyd; one sister, Fanny Brown; and three brothers, Ollie Davis, Ernest Jones; and Hubbard Jones. Funeral services were held yesterday at 2 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, followed by interment at Montell Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Peyton officiated. Pallbearers were W.D. “Dub” Sutherland, Roy Routh, Robert Verdon, Rodney Lloyd, and Leslie Lloyd.
