Garves Wayne Yates, 89, of Clyde went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22nd at the First Baptist Church of Clyde, with Dr. Toby Henson officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation was held on Friday from 6 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Garves was born on Nov. 28, 1927, in Blooming Grove, Texas to James Fred and Geneva (Gorden) Yates. He moved with his family to Abilene at age ten and attended Wylie and Abilene Schools. After finishing school he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Garves married Jo Campbell in March 1954 in Abilene and they moved to Clyde in 1958. He worked as a switchman for the T&P Railroad until starting a trucking business in 1965. Along with his two sons they formed Yates & Sons Road Construction Materials Company. Garves retired in 1992. He loved being with his family, whether he and Jo were traveling in their motor home or attending their grandchildrens sporting events. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clyde. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Robert and Margie Campbell; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Malone and Ruby Miller. Garves is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jo Yates; two sons, Wayne Yates and wife, Teresa, of Clyde, and Eddie Yates and wife, Nicola, of Uvalde; seven grandchildren, Jerod Yates and wife Amy, Brandon Yates and wife Jessica, Chanda Jones and husband Donald, Hunter Yates, Audra Yates, Emily Riley and husband Justin, and Kelsey Crowsey and husband Brandon; seven great grandchildren, Allie, Landon, Avery, Kate, Kinsley, Harper Jo and Dax; and brother Ray Yates of Clyde.
