
Martin Cardenas, 52, of Uvalde died on May 5, 2017, in Uvalde. He was born on Jan. 4, 1965, in Uvalde to Concepcion (Rodriguez) and Roberto Cardenas. He graduated from Uvalde High School. He owned and operated Cardenas Electric. The family says he loved to play baseball, to barbecue, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Cardenas is survived by three sons, Jose Cardenas and companion, Maria Gutierrez, Jacob Cruz, and Jordon Cruz; one daughter, Jae-Lynn Cruz; and life companion, Gloria Cruz, all of Uvalde; two sisters, Mary Jane Padilla of Del Rio, and Alma Rendon and husband, Eluterio, of Uvalde; one brother, Jorge Rodriguez and wife, Carmela, of Piedras Negras, Mexico; one grandson, Jared Cardenas of Uvalde; three nieces, Azannette Padilla, Beth Falcon and Concepcion Rodriguez; and four nephews, Alfred Padilla, Nano Rendon, Steve Rendon and Jesus Rodriguez. Cardenas was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Roberto Cardenas Jr. A rosary was recited on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, and a vigil was held on Monday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass was held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by interment at the Uvalde Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Los Tercos, Pete Treviño, Peter Garza, Joe Contreras, Johnny Guzman, Al Salinas and Dundee Chapoy.
