Bernice Chapoy Garcia

Bernice Chapoy Garcia, 79, of Uvalde died on April 19, 2016, in San Antonio. She was born on Aug. 3, 1936, in Uvalde to Rebecca (Alvarez) and Alfred H. Chapoy. She married Willie Garcia on Aug. 8, 1954, in Uvalde. Garcia is survived by her husband of 62 years; three daughters, Sylvia Garcia and partner, Alicia Longoria, of San Antonio, Cynthia Perez and husband, Elias, of Uvalde, and Liza Hernandez and husband, Manuel, of Uvalde; one son, Willie Garcia Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Uvalde; one brother, Alfred Chapoy Jr. and wife, Delia, of Pasco, Washington; 19 grandchildren, Hector Garcia Jr., Ben Garcia, Eliseo Garcia, David Garcia, Willie Garcia III, Erica Garcia, Stephanie Garcia, Tanya Garcia, Ethan Lopez, Diandra Garcia, John Michael Garcia, Brianna Garcia, Marcial Perez, Sierra Perez, Manuel Hernandez, Randy Hernandez, Steven Hernandez, Michael Hernandez, and Ashley Hernandez, all of Uvalde; 21 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Hector Garcia; parents; and two brothers, Adolfo Chapoy and Jimmy Chapoy. A rosary was recited on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A mass of Christian burial was held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers were Willie Garcia III, Hector Garcia Jr., Marshall Perez, Ben Garcia, Michael Hernandez, and Steven Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers were Manuel Hernandez Jr., Randy Hernandez, John Michael Garcia, and Ethan Lopez.
