Rosa Cardona

Rosa Cardona, 69, of Batesville died on June 22, 2017, in Amarillo. She was born on Aug. 21, 1947, in Poteet to Maria (Quevedo) and Frank ‘’Pancho’’ Cardona. She married David Treviño Sr. on Dec. 28, 1965, in Batesville. Cardona was a member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Amarillo. She worked as a caregiver for the elderly for more than 35 years before retiring. Her retirement activities included trips to the casino, where slot machines were a favorite and sleeping and eating was optional. She was an avid sports fan and her eyes shined with spirit when walking in to the Dallas Cowboy stadium and the Texas Rangers ballpark. The family says that for a while, she made them believe that Roger Staubach was ‘’our daddy.” Family, particularly her beloved grandchildren, was important to Cardona; and her sparkling personality and joyful demeanor contributed to her well-lived life. She is survived by six children, David Treviño and wife, Mirella, of Batesville, Sonia Treviño and husband, Troyce, Stephanie Frausto and husband, Tino, and Joe Camacho, all of Amarillo, and Cristina Alvarado and husband, Osmar, and Sonny Guerrero, all of Denver, Colorado; one god-daughter, Patricia Rodriguez; one sister, Betty Duran; and three brothers, Margarito ‘’Peggy’’ Cardona, Eduardo Cardona, and Rafael Cardona, all of Chicago, Illinois; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Guadalupe Treviño and Martha T. Cantu, both of Batesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Connie Treviño, two sons, David Treviño Jr. and Ronnie Treviño; two brothers, Frank Cardona and Mariano Cardona; and one sister, Hermina ‘’Minnie’’ Cardona. A rosary was recited on Monday and again on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass was held yesterday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Batesville, followed by interment at Batesville Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Hernandez, Morgan Long, Brandon Gonzales, Daniel Treviño, Dario Hernandez and Logan Palmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Tino Frausto Jr., Felix Guerrero, Santos Guerrero and Sebastian Guerrero.
