Hal Jessee

Hal Jessee, 91, of La Pryor died on April 26, 2016, at the University Hospital in San Antonio. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. Internment will follow at La Pryor Cemetery. Jesse was born on July 7, 1924, in La Pryor to Marie (Abele) and Paul Jessee. He graduated from La Pryor High School in 1941. He attended college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He joined the military and served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. He was stationed overseas in Okinawa, Japan, and Pavuvu Island, Central Province of Solomon Islands, for three years. He was appointed as a driving instructor for amphibious tractors. Following his military service, he moved to San Antonio to attend the Draughon’s Business College of San Antonio, where he met his future wife, Vada Waite. The couple married in her hometown of Comfort on June 17, 1950. They had two children, Vernon and Holly. Jessee retired from Zavala County, where he worked for the Department of Transportation as as supervisor, in 1984. He was also a dedicated farmer and rancher. He is survived by one son, Vernon Jessee of La Pryor; one daughter-in-law, Edna Jessee of La Pryor; four grandchildren, Janita Jessee and Joseph Valenzuela of Uvalde, and Halie Jessee and Samuel Zapata of San Antonio; one great-grandson, Joseph Aaron Valenzuela Jr.; one sister, Margaret Day of Leander; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter, Holly Jessee; parents; one brother, Johnny Jessee; and one sister-in-law, Jimbob Jessee.
