Richard Cardenas, 66, of Hondo died on April 23, 2016, at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. A rosary was recited yesterday and will be recited again today at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A mass of Christian burial will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. He was born on Sept. 7, 1949, in Uvalde to Odulia (Talamantez) and Adan Cardenas. He is survived by his wife, Carol Mae Cardenas; four daughters, Becky Cardenas Salazar of Lubbock, Sandra Marie Cardenas of San Antonio, Nancy Cardenas and husband, Marco Cahue, of Hondo, and Stacie Janalle Cardenas of Hondo; one son, Richard Rene Cardenas of San Antonio; two sisters, Diana Perez and Yolanda Morales, both of Illinois; one brother, Eddie Ramirez of Kerrville; and numerous grandchildren and cousins. Cardenas was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Esperanza Ortega Cardenas. Pallbearers will be Randy Cardenas, Jaime Requejo, Marco Cahue, William Nokes, Eric Martin and Gabriel Ramirez.
