Van Cedric Garcia, 54, of San Antonio died on May 18, 2016, in San Antonio of leukemia. He was born on Sept. 25, 1961, at Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico, to Evelyn (Mendeke) and Noris Garcia. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Rosey Mendeke, with whom he spent time in Uvalde. The family says Garcia, a certified police officer with the Northside Independent School District, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and most of all riding his Harley motorcycle. He is survived by his parents, of Uvalde; girlfriend, Diana Madrid; one daughter, Ashley Nicole Garcia; and one granddaughter, Addyson Rosabell Garcia, all of San Antonio; one brother, Jon Eric Garcia and wife, Sharron, of Uvalde; one sister, Jennifer Mendeke Hendrix, of Las Vegas, Nevada; two nephews; Jon Garcia and Anthony Millsap; and his dog Harley. The family says Garcia will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Services were held on Tuesday at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi-Marian, 11624 Culebra Rd in San Antonio.
