
Johnnie Mae Hughes, 83, of Uvalde died on Aug. 14, 2016 in Uvalde. She was born on July 25, 1933, in La Salle County to Johnnie (Crawford) and Jake Irvin Cain. The family says she later came to know and love her step-father, William Thomas Bull. Hughes spent most of her life in South Texas, including time in both Dimmit and La Salle Counties. At the time of her death, she was a resident of The Veranda in Uvalde. The family says she enjoyed traveling, genealogy and crafting; she believed in God and knew him to be her Lord and savior. She is survived by one son, William Thomas “Bill” Hughes and wife, Amy, of Hondo, and one granddaughter, Tegatha Lea Hughes and husband, Levi, of Pleasanton. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather. A memorial service was held yesterday at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Carrizo Springs.
